The North Texas Gender Friends group was created in November of 2006 and, as of this writing, there are 205 members.† We add a few more each month as people find us on the internet or through friends or counselors.

During that 2006 time frame in Dallas, Texas, there was no Yahoo group that was available that had the focus that NTGF has, that is, connecting any and all types of gender nonconforming individuals.†† I was concerned too that groups tended to fragment and lose unity because they had missions.† Missions require leadership and direction and people leave because they disagree with the mission or with the leadership.†

Hence, I decided to create NTGF with the mission of having the simplest mission we could have and providing the least amount of leadership possible.† It has been a model that has seemed to work, because we are still growing, still bringing people together, and I have had to do very little work in moderation.†

There are other groups too and I hope you seek them out.† I hope you get involved.† I hope you keep trying and never give up.† But if you do and feel you need someone to help, please do reach out and share your burden with others.† As someone once told me, you are not alone.† That is what NTGF is all aboutóbeing there, for each other, because we walk a challenging path.† We just have to learn how to turn our curses into blessings!
